REWARDING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Simcoe County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) is a dynamic, progressive, not-for-profit organization. Our successful partnership with the Barrie Public Library and its friendly, knowledgeable staff has created a rare and wonderful collection of genealogy books and microforms for your use. You can access resources locally 7 days a week without paying users’ fees.


What can you do to ensure that Barrie Library remains the best genealogy library north of Toronto? Become a library volunteer!

1. Re-shelve used books.
    - No experience required.
    - We provide training and guide sheets.
    - Time: Minimum one half hour one day per month.

2. Chairperson, Library Committee.
    - No experience required.
    - Attend Simcoe County Branch Executive
meetings – 1 ½ hours first Saturday monthly.
    - Organize volunteers.
    - Liaise with Barrie Library staff.
    - Write articles for SCAN. Etc.

3. Librarian
    - Books - Experience required to catalogue books using the DDC system.
      Type and affix labels. Maintain a shelf list. Etc.
    - Periodicals – No experience required. Mainly filing.
    - Microfilms – No experience required. Type and affix labels.

4. Fund Raiser
    - No experience required.
    - Prepare grant applications.
    - Solicit donations
for special library projects. Etc.
